Prior to starting with all of these ideas it is great idea to begin with a cleaner just like it: maccleaner! Learn which version of the Mac OS you have on your computer and make certain that the tips you read about apply to your version.

To many computer users, this may be obvious. However, there are numerous people who would find the tips and not even know to check which operating system they are for. As we explore more and more about our particular computer’s operating system, it’s quite normal to take for granted that other users of the same system know as much about it as we do. Let’s remember that people walk around who are rank beginners all the way up to experts on Mac OS tricks.

A trend that clearly has become apparent with the OS X Lion is that certain items are less busy on the user interface. The sidebar, for example, uses the default settings to hide quite a few things. When you change the default settings in order to display them, the development that causes this is good. In order to have more options and control over your interface, this gives users the opportunity to customize it the way they want. All you have to do is go to the Finder menu and select Finder Preferences. If you want to go to the sidebar, find the Sidebar tab, and make the selection you want. With what you find under the General tab, your desktop can be customized.

Before the new Mac OS X Lion, it could be annoying to see the indicator lights on that showed that an app was open. Now, however, the Dock offers features that make working more convenient as well as easier. And, you will find that you can easily eliminate those annoying indicator lights if you so choose. It’s easy to do through System Preferences. Just go there and choose the selection appropriate to what you want to do. The indicator lights can then be disabled by going to Dock and making the choice you prefer.

You might want to use an external disk to back up your computer, and for security reasons, you will want to encrypt them. My friends and I take this standard security precaution all of the time. The Mac OS Lion now has the option of taking the system volume and applying encryption. That is a departure from what you had to do before, and we think this is the way to go and gives you convenience. You can apply this level of security directly to your devices, such as fire wire drive, once you select them.

If you really want to get the most out of your computer, learn how to manipulate and organize your files and folders in a manner preferable to you. Of course there are quite a few Mac OS tips that are about that subject. However, even if you don’t use your computer every day, these Mac OS tips will be very useful.
