After consecutive losses to Junior dos Santos and Brendan Schaub in 2010, Gabriel Gonzaga was released from the UFC, at which time he declared he was retiring. He returned to the sport in October and scored a win in an event in Connecticut, and now he’s heading back to the Octagon.

The website for his Team Link BJJ academy revealed on Friday that Gonzaga has signed a four-fight deal with the UFC, and will return at UFC 142 in his home country of Brazil in place of an injured Rob Broughton against Ednaldo Oliveira.

Gonzaga reached the height of his MMA career in 2007 with his at-the-time shocking head kick knockout of Mirko Cro Cop, a win that earned him a fight for the UFC Heavyweight Championship against Randy Couture. However, after the win over Cro Cop, he would lose to Couture, and post a 3-5 record in the Octagon over his final eight fights.
